About the Author

For over 30 years, Steve Patschke has been on a mission to make kids laugh, gasp, and love books—whether he’s reading aloud in a classroom, helping pick the perfect library book, or writing spooky, silly, and downright magical stories of his own.

A retired elementary school librarian and teacher, Steve has a B.A. in English, a Master in Library Science, and once had the good fortune to be mentored by Mike Thaler, the creator of The Teacher from the Black Lagoon—which might explain a few things. Steve’s picture books have been published by big-name houses and translated into multiple languages (which means kids in Europe are probably giggling at the same parts you are).

His newest book, The Haunted Scavenger Hunt, joins a frightfully fun lineup that includes Don’t Look At It! Don’t Touch It! (Published twice—because it was just that good), The Spooky Book—which was adapted into a professional video by Spoken Arts—and a pop-up retelling of The Nutcracker and the Rat King, which reached #1 on Amazon. His work has appeared in The New York Times (Modern Love) and Chicken Soup for the Soul, received a starred review from Booklist, and earned critical praise from Publishers WeeklyThe Boston Globeand The Baltimore Sun.
